Celebration of music at the Baltic Opera Festival
This coming summer at the Baltic will be a true celebration of music, thanks to the Baltic Opera Festival. Four days, two premiere performances, two orchestras, two choirs, and dozens of brilliant artists: soloists and creators. The initiator and co-creator of the summer festival is the renowned Polish bass-baritone Tomasz Konieczny. He is an artist acclaimed at the Metropolitan Opera, La Scala, and opera houses in Paris, Berlin, and Vienna. In July, he will return to Poland to create a space to experience high-quality art, not only for the Polish audience.
Konieczny’s idea involves utilizing the unique space of the Sopot Forest Opera and the natural qualities of this stage for opera art. The organizers are the Ministry of Culture and National Heritage, the Baltic Opera in Gdańsk, and the National Center for Culture, supported by the Dal Segno Institute.
Performances presented at the Baltic Opera Festival are premier productions of well-known titles. On the stage of the Forest Opera, in excellent acoustical conditions created by nature, „The Flying Dutchman,” a three-act romantic opera by Richard Wagner, will be presented. The Baltic Opera will conduct the performance in Gdańsk with the participation of its orchestra and choir, as well as world-class artists, invited for collaboration, like Andrzej Dobber, Małgorzata Walewska, Boris Kudlička, and Maestro Marek Janowski.
At the Baltic Opera in Gdańsk, Karol Szymanowski’s operetta „Loteria na mężów, czyli Narzeczony nr 69” will be specially prepared for this occasion by the Kraków Opera. Consistent with the festival’s mission, alongside established and experienced singers, we will also admire the most talented young students of vocal art. The presentation of the „Kraków” Lottery will also be the opening of the Baltic Opera Festival. The Baltic Opera Festival also includes numerous accompanying events, such as a film review, meetings with stars, masterclass sessions promoting musical education, promoting Polish culture, developing international cooperation, and workshops for children.
