You will find fast food, traditional Polish cuisine and international cuisine across towns and cities and in mall food courts. Menus are usually available in foreign languages (usually in English, sometimes also in French and German). Milk bars (bary mleczne) in large cities offer cheap and simple meals. Restaurants usually open from 9 AM to 11 PM, often longer in large cities. Coffee shops usually open from 9 AM to 10 PM. Tips are usually 10% of your bill.

Vegetarian cuisine in Poland is not as popular as in India but the popularity of healthy lifestyle leads to the increase in the number of restaurants offering meat-free meals. However, not each Pole fully understands the idea of vegetarian or vegan cuisine. So, when you're ordering a meal in a restaurant, ask to make sure it doesn't contain milk, eggs, etc. There are also Indian restaurants in the country. You'll find their addresses in the chapter on sightseeing.

Pierogi are a popular Polish dish. These are dumplings made of cooked dough with a filling, often without meat (e.g., potatoes, cheese, spinach). A typical Polish dinner includes meat plus potatoes or groats, and less often, rice. Bread is also very popular in Poland and it comes in many types. Salads (e.g., carrot or cucumber salads) come in many varieties and are also very common.

Żurek, a traditional Polish sour soup based on sourdough, and mushroom soup are among the most popular in Poland. Most soups are cooked with meat. Pork, chicken and beef, the most popular kinds of entrées, are usually fried or roasted. Typical dishes include: roast chicken, pork chop (pork fried in bread crumbs batter) or fried pork meatballs.

Poles are proud of their cakes, such as tree cake (sękacz) from Podkarpacie, apple pie and cheesecake. Black tea is a popular drink which accompanies virtually every meal. Apart from that, it is common to drink fruit juices or compote (stewed fruit drink).
