Lublin named European Capital of Culture 2029

The Polish city of Lublin had cause for celebration this week as it was announced that it will be a European Capital of Culture for 2029.

After fighting off stiff competition from Bielsko-Biała, Katowice, and Kołobrzeg – the three other cities that made the shortlist, Lublin will enjoy a year-long celebration of art and culture in 2029.

Lublin becomes the third Polish city to hold the title of European Capital of Culture. In 2000, it was awarded to Krakow, followed by Wrocław in 2016.

Being named the European Capital of Culture means that a wide programme of events will take place in the city, which is sure to see a rapid increase in domestic visitors as well as overseas tourists.
