The Branicki Place in Białystok
The Branicki Palace, referred to as the Versailles of the Podlasie region, is one of the most interesting monument in Białystok. It a real gem of Late-Baroque architecture, one of the best preserved noble residences of the Saxon period.
The palace was built in 17th century, at first in Gothic and Renaissance style. When the palace became the property of the Branicki family, it was reconstructed basing upon French decoration and spatial solutions and received the form in which it has been preserved until today.
The palace’s history was turbulent. From 19th century until the beginning of 20th it was owned by the Russian tsars, and during the World War II it was destroyed and plundered.
After the war the palace was handed over to the Medical University, which has had its seat in the palace until today.
